The Ultrasound!

Last Thursday was the big day---The Ultrasound! We were excited for many, many reasons. A good friend (that’s you Kim!) works at the hospital in Radiology and we were glad to be able to schedule our visit during her shift. The kids have been counting down the days. It’s been a great way for Jonathan to practice on his numbers and counting as he gears up for Kindergarten in the fall! =)
We were greeted by an old friend, someone whom my family grew up with in Fillmore. Anita was pleasantly surprised (as was I). We shared many stories, both past and present and had a great opportunity to catch up on the families. She was great and helped to make the experience even more memorable. After getting all the measurements and stuff done, it was time to find out the sex. So we were hoping…..
She tried and tried and tried to move the baby around but just couldn’t get a good shot. The baby was laying vertical with it’s head at my belly button and legs down, so that was why she was having such a hard time getting a good picture. She assured me that she would NOT suggest one sex or another unless she could see for positive the parts needed to confirm. I was getting bummed, I’ll be honest. After trying for a good 30 minutes, without any cooperation from the baby, she stepped out to get Kim. A fresh set of eyes can make a difference. Kim wasn’t available so Anita brought Kenny and the kids in so see the baby. We got some good pictures. Maybe the baby just needed a rest. A good picture of the face and Anita was able to play it back so we say the baby moving and opening and closing the mouth. Then the baby suddenly threw his/her hand up under the chin, so Anita stopped it and printed pictures out for the kids with ‘Hi, Madison and Jonathan’ printed on it.

They thought that was cool. As we were finishing up, Anita all of sudden hollers “that is exactly what I’ve been wanting to see!” She got the picture! IT’S A GIRL!!!

At this point, I started crying ( I was in an OMG! state!) and Madison I am pretty sure jumped a mile high in the air! LOL I just looked at Jonathan and his facial expression never changed. I asked him if he heard and understood, that we were having a girl and he said yes. But still no facial expression. Reminds me so much of my brother. =) He finally came up next to me and said that he wasn’t excited. I wanted to burst into tears. He wasn’t digesting it all as he proceeded to say that he didn’t want to change rooms with sissy. Anita excitedly chimed in that he wasn’t going to have to change rooms b/c it was a girl. So then he was okay! Funny how they take in different parts and where their concerns are.

Madison….I can’t even begin to find the words to describe how excited she is. She is no longer worried about having to give up her bunk bed. We explained to the kids that one of them was going to have to share a room with the baby depending on if it was a boy or a girl. And who ever ended up sharing the room was going to be in Madison’s room, so if it was a boy, Jonathan and Madison were going to have to change rooms (Madison’s room is bigger). And if it was a girl then they didn’t change rooms but Madison and Jonathan would trade beds so Madison had more room in her room.

We can now breathe knowing what we have to prepare for and really get in on the excitement of picking out a name. Jonathan actually suggested for the first time this morning his thoughts on a girl name. So he is easing into the idea. He says that he and daddy are going to need a shack in the woods to escape to every once in a while!
